What Should I Do With My Car Before a Part-Exchange?
Deciding to trade-in your car for a new, upgraded one is something that many motorists consider throughout their time driving.
The trade-in process is often simpler than opting for a private sale, and it's a great way to put the value of your old car towards your new one, reducing the monthly payments, or the overall cost of the car (if you're buying in full).
There are many things to consider before you drop your vehicle off at the dealership in exchange for your new one, and Stockton Kia wanted to share some of our top tips to make sure you're not caught out by a drop in value, or a refusal of a part-exchange.
Before you head to the dealership for your part-exchange quote, we'd recommend that you do the following to give yourself the best chance of getting the highest quote possible:
Clean your car, inside and out.
This gives your car a cleaner presentation and can often increase your chance of being given a higher part-exchange quote. It removes the dirt, which may look like scratch marks, and gives the dealer an accurate idea of your car's paintwork.
Have you thought about putting your car through a health check? This can help highlight potential issues before they become costly.
Gather any important documents.
Make sure that you have your car's name, description, service history, log book, maintenance and warranty documents, as well as anything else a potential buyer might want to see whilst inspecting your car.
Grab any extras.
Make sure that you take your second key (if you have one, if not, let the dealership know), car mats (if they came with the car), and anything else you think that would be an accessory in the car that potential buyers might be interested in.
If you're interested in financing your next car, make sure that you're aware of optional extras such as GAP insurance. GAP insurance can help you avoid costly payments in the event of an accident.
Fix smaller issues yourself.
Conduct your own inspection and make sure that all of your car's lights and electronics are in full working order. Check your washer fluid, coolant levels and oil levels are correct, these are simple to check over and should be checked occasionally as standard.
Leave any larger work for the dealership, this is just an east way to gather some extra pounds on top of that quote!

Get multiple quotes.
Make sure that you contact a variety of locations to find the right offer. Well known car purchase companies can try to knock down initial quotes given over the internet, so be prepared by having an idea of how much your car is worth and keep this in mind when you're given an estimate.
